When I was growning up we could get a whoopin from other kids parents, we could get paddled at school, and then get it again when we got home. It may be because in those days we were more likely to get a beat down than today where you can’t discipline a kid before someone is calling DFS on you. I agree with you that the disrespecting adults and the know it alls is not the norm amongst kids these days, though I see it more now than I did 30+ years ago. We would say some curse words amongst each other, but not to the extent these kids do and definitely never in front of an adult unless we wanted to get backhanded in the face. So the fact that they talk like this on the show is more of a 2019 kid than a 1985 kid, especially in grade school and junior high. My kids are around your age, 17 and 19, and I know that cursing is a lot more tolerated now than it was when I was a kid.
